Question: Can a garden tractor have larger tires?

( Back )

Answer #1:

as long as the rim size is the same or the lug holes will work. just remember that bigger tires will give you more speed but less power.

Answer #2:

The stock tire size is matched to the transaxle's rated limit. Putting oversize tires on means putting more stress on the tranny. For normal mowing duties this shouldn't be a problem but if you use your machine to plow snow, pull carts or lawn sweepers etc. it will shorten the life of the transaxle. I broke the tranny twice on the same tractor because of mounting large ATV knobbys. I put stock tires back on after the second breakdown.
